When Insulation Needs to Come Out Before It Goes Back In
Not every attic or wall just needs a top-up. Insulation soaked by a roof or plumbing leak, compressed and matted down over the years, or contaminated by rodents or other pests has stopped doing its job and can hold moisture or odour against your framing. Renovations also expose old cavities that were never meant to be reopened, and whatever is in there needs to come out cleanly before new material goes in. We remove it with vacuum extraction rather than pulling it out by hand, which keeps dust and debris contained.
How It Works
Vacuum Extraction, Not a Shovel and a Garbage Bag
We use industrial vacuum equipment connected by hose from the attic or wall cavity to a sealed collection unit, usually staged outside or in a garage. Loose-fill cellulose or fiberglass, along with debris mixed into it, is pulled directly into containment instead of being bagged by hand inside the attic. That is faster on larger jobs and keeps material and dust from tracking through the living space on the way out.
A roof leak, ice damming backup, or plumbing failure has soaked the insulation. Droppings, nesting material, or odour from rodents or other pests mean the existing insulation should be removed.
Old or Unidentified Loose-Fill
Older loose-fill material of unknown type or condition.
Renovation Exposure
Opening up an old wall or attic cavity during a renovation is the natural point to remove old insulation.
Our Process
Our Insulation Removal Process
1
Free on-site assessment
We look at what is in the cavity and how it got that way before quoting anything.
2
Space preparation
Work areas and access points are protected and containment is staged.
3
Vacuum extraction
Old insulation is pulled through hose into sealed containment, not bagged by hand.
4
Disposal
Removed material is hauled away as part of the job.
Removal pricing depends on the volume of material, how contaminated or compressed it is, and how accessible the space is, so there is no flat per-square-foot number for this service. We confirm pricing after a free on-site assessment.

Insulation Removal FAQs
What kind of insulation do you remove?
Mostly loose-fill cellulose and fiberglass, plus old or damaged batt insulation, from attics and wall cavities. Describe the problem when you book and we will confirm on-site.
Will removal be messy inside my home?
Vacuum extraction with sealed containment keeps material contained far better than removing insulation by hand, and we protect access points on the way to the attic or cavity.
Do you install new insulation right after removal?
Yes, we can quote the replacement material and R-value target in the same visit, so you are not left with an empty attic between jobs.
How do you dispose of the removed insulation?
We haul the removed material away as part of the job. You do not need to arrange separate disposal.
How long does insulation removal take?
It depends on attic size, access, and how much material is coming out. We give a time estimate with the price after the on-site assessment.
Can you remove insulation from a wall without major demolition?
Wall cavities are removed through the access we have, which sometimes means a small opening rather than the whole surface. We explain what is needed during the assessment.
